Bigfoot Crossing

Do you know any creepy cryptid tales? Cryptids are creatures people believe are real, but their existence remains scientifically unproven. Two famous examples are Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster, though there are plenty of other beasts of wonder to explore. Here are 12 of them.

1. Penelope

Said to be a local of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, Penelope has been described as tall and pale, with an elongated body and long black hair. Her sharp claws and cannibalistic reputation precede her.

The legend claims she hunts through the wilderness and campsites at night in search of flesh. It may seem a stretch, but there have been numerous eyewitness accounts of this mountain monster, and even park rangers have reported strange sightings.

2. Lusca

The Lusca is a chimaera (an assortment of different animals, namely part-octopus and part-shark). Mentioned in Caribbean folklore, it is a sea creature said to scour the Gulf and areas along the Mexican shore. The Lusca was also investigated by British explorer and presenter Jeremy Wade, though there is still much mystery surrounding its origin.

3. Bigfoot

Perhaps the most famous cryptid, Bigfoot, is said to be a large, hairy, ape-like creature inhabiting North America’s forests. There have been countless reported sightings of Bigfoot over the years, and many people claim to have heard its distinctive howl. Some even claim to have found physical evidence of Bigfoot, such as footprints or hair samples.

4. Loch Ness Monster

The Loch Ness Monster, or “Nessie” as it’s affectionately known, is said to inhabit the depths of Scotland’s Loch Ness. Descriptions of Nessie vary, but many reports describe a large, serpentine creature with a long neck and humps on its back. While there have been many attempts to capture Nessie on film or photograph, none have been conclusive.

5. Chupacabra

The Chupacabra, which means “goat sucker” in Spanish, is said to inhabit parts of the Americas. The Chupacabra is said to attack and drain the blood of livestock, particularly goats.

6. Mothman

7. Jersey Devil

The Pine Barrens of southern New Jersey are believed to be the dwelling place of the Jersey Devil. Many believe seeing the Jersey Devil is a bad omen, as sightings are frequently followed by catastrophic incidents such as shipwrecks and stock market crashes.
