1. Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh, Scotland

This 11th-century fortified castle in Scotland’s capital is steeped in Scottish history, serving as the home of monarchs like Mary, Queen of Scotts during the Middle Ages, and being under siege almost two dozen times during times of war.
Numerous reports of paranormal activity have occurred within the castle’s walls, such as bagpipes, drum music by unseen musicians, and ghost sightings of soldiers and prisoners. Visitors to the court can take tours, have tea, or enjoy a meal in one of its dining halls.
2. Lizzie Borden House, Fall River, Massachusetts

The Lizzie Borden House is the site of the notorious deaths of Lizzie Borden’s father and stepmother in 1892. Visitors reported hearing the sounds of children laughing, footsteps, and creaking floors and stairs. Others swear they’ve seen ghostly figures throughout various rooms of the dwelling. Today it’s a popular bed-and-breakfast offering ghost tours and overnight stays.
3. Akershus Fortress, Oslo, Norway

Considered Norway’s most haunted place, Akershus Fortress is a medieval castle that’s a major attraction for traveling ghost hunters. This castle has been a fortress, prison, military base, and royal family home. There have been sightings of a faceless woman and a demon dog who supposedly guards the castle. There’s no charge for admission, so thrill seekers can get their scare on for free.
4. The Stanley Hotel, Estes Park, Colorado

Hotel staffers and guests are said to routinely see previous employees’ apparitions, hear phantom children laughing and playing, and see doors opening and closing by themselves. The Stanley Hotel is also famous for being one of the inspirations of the Overlook Hotel in Stephen King’s novel The Shining.
5. The Old Vicarage, Borgvattnet, Sweden

Located in the northern region of Sweden, guests staying at the Old Vicarage have reported unexplained phenomena occurring there for decades. Sounds with no known source, ghost sightings, objects moving by themselves, and being physically thrown off furniture are some supernatural events at the cottage resort.

The fortressed castle was initially a residence for the English royal family. It soon became known as one of the most notorious prisons in the world. The ghosts of Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry VIII, and Lady Jane Grey are some of the royal specters said to be roaming around the castle and grounds.
7. St. Augustine Lighthouse, St. Augustine, Florida

The eerie occurrences at the St. Augustine Lighthouse connect to its tragic history when three young girls drowned by the lighthouse while their father was working there. Workers and visitors to the lighthouse reportedly heard the sound of footsteps when no one else was there and the ghosts of young girls. 10. Eastern State Penitentiary, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

The prison that once housed infamous mobster Al Capone is reputed to be one of the most haunted places in the world. When it was operational, Eastern State Penitentiary had a reputation for the inhumane treatment of inmates, many of whose lives ended there. The ghosts of those inmates still roam the prison corridors. The facility closed in 1971 but is now a historic site and museum open for tours.
