1. Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh, Scotland

This 11th-century fortified castle in Scotland’s capital is steeped in Scottish history, serving as the home of monarchs like Mary, Queen of Scotts during the Middle Ages, and being under siege almost two dozen times during times of war.
Numerous reports of paranormal activity have occurred within the castle’s walls, such as bagpipes, drum music by unseen musicians, and ghost sightings of soldiers and prisoners. Visitors to the court can take tours, have tea, or enjoy a meal in one of its dining halls.
2. Lizzie Borden House, Fall River, Massachusetts

The Lizzie Borden House is the site of the notorious deaths of Lizzie Borden’s father and stepmother in 1892. Considered Norway’s most haunted place, Akershus Fortress is a medieval castle that’s a major attraction for traveling ghost hunters. This castle has been a fortress, prison, military base, and royal family home. There have been sightings of a faceless woman and a demon dog who supposedly guards the castle. There’s no charge for admission, so thrill seekers can get their scare on for free.
4. The Stanley Hotel, Estes Park, Colorado

Hotel staffers and guests are said to routinely see previous employees’ apparitions, hear phantom children laughing and playing, and see doors opening and closing by themselves. The Stanley Hotel is also famous for being one of the inspirations of the Overlook Hotel in Stephen King’s novel The Shining.

When it was operational, Eastern State Penitentiary had a reputation for the inhumane treatment of inmates, many of whose lives ended there.
